I've seen M1889s with both one and two bands in different configurations made by different manufacturers at different times. Saudi Arabia bought substantial numbers of FN rifles in 1945-1950. Is there any way to determine how old it is and if it qualifies for antique status? I know FN started up in 1889 to make the M1889, I can't imagine it took them over 9 years to make 6000 rifles? Is this information available anywhere?Īlso, the rifle in question has two barrel bands. They had massive walnut benchrest stocks (like in the early 1960s), plus very heavy barrels, plus what looked like a standard commercial FN mauser action (such as you would see on the old FN Supreme rifles). The FN Model 24 series is a line of Mauser Gewehr 98 pattern bolt-action battle rifles produced by the Belgian. that was almost twice that of contemporary designs, such as the Luger or Mauser. I'm looking at an FN-made Belgian 1889 Mauser, serial number 57XX. As with all army equipment, the serial number and Waffenamt were also.
