Also, why it still exists especially when they acknowledged the scores shouldn’t be used for ERAS is beyond me. STEP has hence forced us to use third party resources more than our own medical schools’ curriculums. I also find it ridiculous that medical schools teach based on guidelines by the LCME but that the NBME has its own guidelines for STEP. It also is very racist imo, we have all seen those questions where it was written in such a way that the only way to diagnose the patient was by their race. I know people believe residencies need a score to use, but that doesn’t make STEP 1 legitimate you might as well compare heights then because neither are useful. I think it is ridiculous that STEP 1 exists given it has little to no data to being correlated to becoming good physicians or passing boards. Also, I’m writing this from the wards on my phone so sorry if none of this makes sense. This is a serious question but unfortunately I have zero experience nor understanding of the law so MD/JDs and JDs please help.
